In this lesson Ss revise numbers and letters and learn how tomake reservations in different places (i.e. at the hotel or at the restaurant)

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of making reservations (at the hotels or at the restaurants).

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of dictating numbers and spelling.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T greets SS and asks them how they are. T marks Ss present on an attendance sheet. T shows pictures of a hotel and elicits: hotel T asks: if you want a room in a hotel, what can you do? T elicits: book/reserve

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through speaking

T writes on WB: 5100 6914 7876 9973 T asks Ss to say the numbers while she is writing. T asks: What is it? T elicits: credit card number T elicits the dialogue: A: What’s your credit card number? B: It's 5100 6914 7876 9973 T gives out flashcards and invites Ss to practice the dialogue. OCFB Then T writes on WB: BUZULUCKAIA. T asks Ss to say the letters while she is writing. T asks: Wat is it? T elicits: surname T spells her surname herself and elicits: spell T elicits the dialogue: A: Could you spell your surname,please? B: No problem. It’s BUZULUCKAIA. B-U-Z-U-L-U-C-K-A-I-A. T gives out flashcards and invites Ss to practice the dialogue. OCFB

Useful Language. Productive task 1 (10-15 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T shows Ss WS with a dialogue and elicits: dialogue. T shows Ss cut-out flashcards with the dialogue and elicits the exercise: make a dialogue from these flashcards. FB: T gives out WS with the dialogue in the correct order. T divides SS into pairs and distributes Role Play Flashcards with different credit card details to practise telling numbers and spelling. OCFB

Useful language. Productive Task 2 (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T says: If you want to stay at the hotel you need to ... T elicits: book a room T says: So, we can book a room, What else? T elicits: a table, in a restaurant. T shows Ss flashcards and asks: How do you think? What will you do? T elicits the exercise: make a dialogue from these flashcards. FB: T gives out WS with the dialogue in the correct order. T lays flashcards face-down on a tabel and tells Ss to take one card. T asks Ss to find their partners according to the information on a flashcard. Ss act out dialogues changing roles. OCFB.

Feedback and Error Correction (5-7 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T thanks Ss for the lesson and asks them what what they did during the lesson, what they have learned. Possible answers: say numbers spell surname book a room book a table T thanks Ss for the lesson and wishes them a good day.
