Description

For this lesson, the students will working their reading skills using the previous lesson, where they receive a explanation of what is skimming, scanning and reading for details in a text. This lesson will bring them new knowledge of the past, corroborating with all have been learnt in the past 3 weeks.

Main Aims

  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about vikings in the context of history and their death

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a history of vikings in the context of their life

Procedure

The Vikings (3-5 minutes) • Introduce the subject in a very casual way to familiarise the ss

- T opens the slides and present the question "What do you know about Vikings?" and ask them to discuss about it. - While they are talking T will show a picture of the vikings to give them more to talk about it.

Vocabulary for the text- Anchor Up (10-12 minutes) • To give the students foundation for their understanding of the text

-T presents the words through explanations and hangman game( settlement, warrior,voyages, petrified, raids, pillage and strike) -SS will get feedback if needed.

Presenting the Text- Set Sail (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

- T presents the text introduction and give them 1 minute to read in the main room. - Ss will be asked the question 2 from SB on board and send into groups to discuss during 2 min. - After they get back to main room T will give the AK, and provide feedback. -Ss will get another HO, this time with whole text to skim and answer question 3, again in groups during 2 min. - After they get back to main room T will get feedback and check the answers together.

Working with the text- Set Anchor (8-10 minutes) • To give the students some challenging and engaging activity

- T show HO with the peaces of the text and in groups the ss have 5 min to play "The Story Sequence Chart". - SS will get feedback when get back to main room.

Freer activity-Conquer (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

- T ask the students, how they think the Vikings lived and What was their end?,They should be creative here and create a end for them. - SS will send to groups during 4 minutes. - In the main room ss give feedback.
