Materials

Main Aims

  • Students will learn and practice conditional type 3 and past wishes

Subsidiary Aims

  • the lesson students will practice their listening skills

Procedure

Lead-in (4-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The learner will look at PowerPoint pictures of people with tattoos. I will ask the learners what the lesson is going to be about. I will elicit the word tattoo. I will ask: the learners to tell each other if tattoos are popular in their country, if they have any tattoos or they want to get one. I will ask the learners to share their ideas in a WCFB.

Listening for the gist (5-6 minutes) • To practice listening and contextualise and introduce the target language

The learners will listen to the audio for the first time. I will ask learners to share with the whole class what it is about. I will provide the learners with a gap fill task (PowerPoint Slide). (3min) let them write it down on a notebook I will ask them to listen one more time (if necessary) and complete the sentences. Put them In (Breakout Room), they will check their answers with their partner. We will go over the answer together.

Highlight Target Language (4-5 minutes) • To highlight the target language so that learners are focussed on it.

I will ask learners to think about how the speaker feels. make them write what could have happened if the speaker asked someone from Japan about the card on (Google Docs).

Clarify the target language (10-12 minutes) • To clarify MFPA for students so they understand the target language

To clarify the target language: Learners will do some tasks on a guided discovery worksheet. Learners will compare the language points they learned in the last lesson and the new aspects of conditional type 3 and past wishes. They will answer the question about the MFPA. Learners will work in pairs to help each other. After each task learners will compare their answers and share them with the whole class.

Controlled practice (5-8 minutes) • To focus on using the target language accurately

I will give learners an exercise where they should fill the gaps with the verbs in the right form. (Google Docs) (4 min) Complete the gaps with the correct form of the verbs in brackets. 1) If I’d checked (check) more carefully, it would never have happened (never happen)! 2) I wish I (not do) it! 3) I wish I (buy) it! 4) If I (not meet) her, my life (be) very different. 5) I wish I (allow) more time. 6) If only I (try) harder! 7) I wish I (never go) to that party! 8) If only I (can) turn the clock back five minutes! 9) I wish I (never set) eyes on him! Leaners will check in pairs their answers in (Breakout Room) (1-2 min) After coming back from (Breakout Room) then do a whole class correction (1-2 min)

Freer Practice (8-10 minutes) • To use the language productively

Have you ever felt regrets like these? Choose three situations and describe them in more detail. Write about what would have happened/ would be different now if you hadn’t done these things. Example: I wish I had allowed more time to get to the party last Saturday because I got stuck in really bad traffic and when I got there it was nearly over: If I’d left home earlier: I wouldn’t have missed all the fun.
