Main Aims

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide Ss with a fluency speaking activity in a conversation in the context of the importance of Social Media sites.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-Display a set of Social Media sites pictures on the screen. -Ask Ss to a link between these pictures and predict the theme of the session. -Ss discuss in pairs the importance of these sites, and answer the question " to what extent such sites affect the sequence of our daily life?". -Nominate for presenting Ss' ideas concerning this topic.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text "Facebook profile could damage job opportunities'' and make it accessible

- Elicit the meaning of the difficult words, reputation, survey, faux pas, reject, recruitment, employee, through displaying some pictures on the screen. - Ask Ss CCQs ex: " employee" Dose he work for someone or start his own business? Does he get a salary or not? -Drill the difficult words and clarify their phonological analysis. -Write the form of words on the board.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with gist reading practice.

-Chest the text with no title, ask Ss to read it for 2 minutes and write a suitable title for it. - Ask Ss ICQs ex: -Are you reading quickly or slowly? -Do you need to understand every single word in the text to answer the questions? -Ss discuss their titles in pairs. - Provide Ss with an open feedback to listen to their suggested titles and discuss them.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with detailed information reading practice.

- Chest HO1 and ask Ss to search for specific information in the text. - Ask Ss ICQs ex: Are you searching for specific information or detailed one? Could such piece of information be a number or a process with stages? Do you need to understand the whole text? - Demonstrate with Ss the first question. - Monitor from distance and make sure that Ss are on the task. - Ss check the answers in pairs. - Provide Ss with a content feedback.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned.

- Divide Ss into two-student groups, ask one of each group to design a profile for him on any of the social media sites, and the other student will act as an employee and scan the profile of classmate and prepare list for questions for the interview. - Monitor Ss from distance to get a language feedback. - Ask a group to act this scene in front of the rest of the class. - Provide Ss with a language feedback.
