Main Aims

  • To revise/ test students’ spelling and knowledge of countries/ nationalities.

Subsidiary Aims

  • By the end of the lesson students will be better able to introduce themselves and others.


Warmer (6-7 minutes) • Getting to know each other

T introduces herself and writes her name on WB. T tells sts to make a circle around her. She throws the ball and says her name. Sts do the same. Then says anther sts' name and throws the ball at him. Sts do the same.

Exposure (6-7 minutes) • To get the students to introduce themselves

T writes on WB: A: Hello, I'm Lara. What_ _ name? What'_ B: _ name _ Betul. A: Nice to__you. B: Nice to__you, __ Students go around the room and practice the conversation with different sts.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to names of countries

T sticks maps on WB. Elicits 'countries'. T says: Talk to your partner in English: Which countries are these?Sts discuss in pairs.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of names of countries

T points to the country maps on the board one by one and elicits and drills the names of countries. The second time she points at them she elicits their pronunciation from students. T distributes names of countries. Sts come to the board and stick them on the relevant countries.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T says:A: I'm from Turkey. Where are you from? T writes the conversation on WB. B: I'm from Turkey, too. A: I'm Turkish. What is your__________? B: I'm Turkish. Teacher gives students Vocabulary ex. Sts write the missing letters in nationalities in pairs. T gets fb from different students. Corrects pronunciation errors.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To get the students to practice names of countries and nationalities

Teacher has pieces of paper on which there are different names and country maps .Teacher tells sts to go around the room and ask and answer questions using the information on the paper.
