Procedure

Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T asks students: Do you prefer to go to to bed early or late? Do you prefer to wake up early or later?

Pre-Reading (6-7 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T tells students: In pairs/groups discuss: What helps you wake up on time in the morning? What helps you fall asleep at night? OCFB: Groups share 1-2 things they have in common regarding sleep/wake preferences.

Gist Reading (6-7 minutes) • To provide students with reading task to get the general idea of the text.

T tells Ss: Quickly read the following text and decide if each paragraph is about FALLING ASLEEP (F) or WAKING UP (W). Check answers in pairs. OCFB: How many F did you get? How many W? Any disagreements about F or W?

Detail Reading (12-14 minutes) • To provide students with more detailed reading comprehension task.

T tells Ss: Each of the following statements in the worksheet is missing some information from the text. Individually students read the text again and select the correct information. Ss check their answers in pairs. OCFB: go through worksheet to make sure all pairs have the correct answers.

Post-Reading (6-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T tells Ss: In pairs discuss which of the tips from the reading you think is most useful? Which one will you start doing?
