Jobs lesson - past and present simple
upper-intermediate level

Description

In this lesson, the students will be able to talk about different kinds of jobs.Next, the will use the simple past to talk about their past status and habits and then use the present simple to talk about their current life.Then, the ss will ask their classmates questions according to the worksheet.Finally, the learners will discuss current affairs that the global suffers from.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of jobs and current personal status in comparison with their past.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of character /personality vocabulary in the context of jobs and current personal status in comparison with their past.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

presenting a question about what kinds of jobs we have which can help the ss to brainstorm about this idea and be prepared well for the theme of the lesson .Also, they will have a wide range of pictures that can help them in thinking about other kinds of jobs .Next, they practice the language individually then in pairs for the peer teaching purpose.Finally, the learners will get feedback.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

presenting vocabulary which related to types of character /personality.Firstly, by drilling the vocabulary and highlighting the phonemic symbols and word stress.Then, by providing an activity concerning the new words with their meanings,

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

By asking the ss each other many questions regarding their current and past life. Using the present and past simple and using the role play for an imaginary social reunion.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

By discussing the recent problems and the changes that whole world suffers from.This will give them a chance to produce the language they have just learnt in an effective way.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

By taking notes through the lesson and writing them on the board and highlighting them to be avoided in the future.
