Machines and Technology
Intermediate, B2 level

Description

In this lesson, students will learn about the vocabulary related with technology and machines. I will start with showing them some pictures representing technology and then I will ask them to discuss their opinion about how the technology changed the world and the advantages and disadvantages of technology. Students will categorize the vocabulary in exercise 1b into the word groups in pairs and then they will check the answers with each other. I will show them the pair which did it right and will tell them to check their answers with that pair. After that I will pre-teach the necessary vocab and the meaning of them in their context-in the group they belong to-from the previous exercise by showing pictures on powerpoint. I will ask them to listen to those words and mark the word stress. Then I will play it for the second time for drilling and will write the words on board with the stresses, Ss will check their answers from the board. When they finished I will ask them to think and add more words to each word group, Ss will work in groups. I will nominate students from each groups for the feedback and will write the answers on the board. Finally students will discuss in their groups which of these they have used in the last twenty four hours. I will nominate students from each group to share their ideas with the class.

I will show them some pictures of technological devices and then show some pictures of what the technology meant to the artists of industrialization. After that I will introduce the lead-in discussion topic to students and they will dicuss how technology and machines changed our world in pairs.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Students match the words in exercise 1b with their collocations and they will work in pairs. I will monitor the students but will give a delayed feedback later on. I will tell them to check with other pairs and if they can't get it right I will show the right group and make them check their answers again.
