Description

In this lesson, Ss learn the pronunciation of connected speech which helps them for understanding spoken English, then they practice listening to find specific and detailed information, then they practice speaking in the context of times and appointments

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-T writes questions on the board -T asks Ss to read the questions and answer them in a group -T puts Ss in groups -Ss discuss the questions, T monitors -T elicits opinions from Ss

Pre-Listening (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for understanding connected speech in spoken English

-T explains the connected speech and makes an example -T asks Ss to repeat after her -T asks Ss to listen to 6 sentences -T asks Ss not to write anything down -T plays the audio once through the whole, Ss listen. -T asks Ss to listen again and write each sentence -T plays the audio again and pauses after each sentence, Ss listen and write -T elicits the sentences on the board and checks answers -T puts Ss into groups and asks them to practice saying the sentences

Pre-teach vocabulary (2-4 minutes) • To reduce blocking vocabulary and make the listening audio easier to understand

-T asks Ss to match words with definition -Ss do matching exercise, teacher monitors -T asks Ss to give their answers -T shows the answer key

While-Listening #1 (4-6 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening tasks

-T asks Ss to look at the calendar and tell the times -T gives Ss some information about the Audio -T asks Ss to listen to the audio and answer just one question -T asks Ss to answer the question and shows the answer key

While-Listening #2 (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference listening tasks

-T asks Ss to read the options -T explains that there are 2 options they don't need -T asks Ss to listen again and complete the calendar with the options from the list -T asks ICQs 1-how many options are going to use? 2-what are you going to do with options? -T plays the audio the whole way through, Ss listen -T asks Ss to answer the questions and shows the answer after each question

Whil-Listening #3 (3-4 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

-T asks Ss to listen again and answer just one question -T plays the audio, Ss listen -T elicits opinions

Post-Listening (6-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to practice speaking and expand on what they've learned

-T writes a question on the board -T asks Ss to read the question and discuss it in a group -T puts Ss into groups -Ss discuss the question, T monitors -T asks Ss about their partner's plans
