Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of the future perfect and future continuous in the context of future inventions

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of future inventions

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-Use the pictures of future inventions in 2040 from the book to elicit the theme of the reading text. (2040 inventions) -Ask the Ss to guess how these pictures are linked to the text "What do you the topic of the text I'm going to show you?"

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

-Teacher shows the text to the Ss for 2 mins only. -Read question 2A p.35 to Ss and ask ICQs to check understanding of the question. -Have SS peer check in 2 BORs -Teach will do a whole-class feedback.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

-Teacher shows model sentences from the text and asks Ss to read them carefully: *Low-cost airlines will have disappeared. * Temperatures worldwide will have risen even further. * People will be recycling 100 % of their waste. * Many people will be driving cars. -Teacher will ask Ss to underline the main verbs

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

*Low-cost airlines will have disappeared. When will the "disappearing action" happen? in the future Is the "disappearing action completed? yes * Temperatures worldwide will have risen even further. When will the "rising action" happen? in the future Is the "rising action" completed? yes * People will be recycling 100 % of their waste. When will the "recycling action" happen? in the future Is the "recycling action" still in progress? yes * Many people will be driving cars. when will the "driving action" happen? in the future Is the "driving action" still in progress? yes Teacher will show the Ss a worksheet which Includes 4 sentences from the reading in the future perfect and future continuous with a table for SS to enter the form into and some true/false questions about pronunciation. -Teacher will have SS do the task individually then discuss their answers in pairs. - Teacher will go into each room to monitor - Teacher will display the answers whole class. -Teacher will ask if anybody would like anything explaining.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

-Teacher will present the practice to Ss and ask ICQs to check understanding. -Teacher will ask Ss to "complete the sentences using the future perfect or future continuous": 1-Very few people install solar panels or wind turbines. (Be) "will have been" 5-Few people are driving electric cars nowadays. Many people ......................... electric cars in 20 years’ time. (drive) "will be driving" 6-Some beaches and holiday resorts disappear partly year after year. Some beaches and holiday resorts ......................... completely in 20 years’ time. (disappear) "will have disappeared" -Teacher will let SS check their answers in 2 groups as it’s a short task then will show the answers whole class.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

-Teacher will make new groups for the discussion. -Teacher will monitor and take notes for FB on content and error correction on language. - -T--Teacher will nominate a group member that has not been nominated previously to report back to the group. -Teacher will give FB on content, write errors on Zoom whiteboard, elicit corrections and check everybody agrees on corrections
