In this lesson, students will learn and practice receptive skill - listening.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and intensive listening practice of family member topic

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide opportunity to learn new vocabularies and practice speaking regarding the topic


Warmer/Lead-in (4-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will first introduce myself and my family members including the names, jobs, married, etc. Then I will ask students to talk about their family in breakout rooms.

Pre-Teach Vocab (9-11 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I will teach 3 vocabularies before any other tasks so that they can listen to the audio easier. Light MFP will be included.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (5-6 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

I will provide a gist listening. Students need to listen and answer 1 general question.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (9-11 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

In this stage, an intensive LC task is provided. Ss will be asked to read the questions for 1 minutes, and then listen to the audio again and answer 5 questions.

Post-Listening (9-11 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

In this stage, I will put students in breakout rooms and discuss what occupation they wanted to become.
