In this lesson, the Ss will revise past simple (regular and irregular verbs), through the context of holidays, creating awareness about the some of actions/ verbs we use in holidays.

Main Aims

  • To provide review and practice of past simple, regular and irregular verbs in the context of holidays

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of holidays and trips


Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- T present the slide with the sentence " When I was young..." and give an example with this sentence. - T elicitate from Ss what tense is that and ask them to create their one. - Ss one by one present their sentence. - T proceed with feedback

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

- T present the functions and form of the past simple, drilling and stressing the verbs changes. - T presents the activity A from SB and do an example and ask the Ss to work individually - T make CCQs to ensure the Ss understood what they should do. - T gets Feedback - T show the Ss activity B and ask Ss to complete the gaps in 1–3 with negative past simple verbs and elicit the answers from them. - T explain the activity C, making one example and elicit the answers from Ss, this will be a whole class activity, however one by one should do at least one sentence, they can choose, negative or question. - T gets the feedback.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

- T ask for attention and ask the Ss to identify if in the audio they use irregular, regular or both?. -T repeat the instructions and play the audio without visual. - T will do CCQs, as, Do all the verbs change in the same way? - Show the visual of Grammar bank 2A. - T show the slide When use Past simple, and ask them to take a picture or make notes. -T monitor and give feedback

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

- T explain they will play a game called Kahoot, they will use their mobile, each question you will have 10 seconds to answer. - ICQs time:- How many seconds you have to answer? 10 seconds/ Are you going to play on your mobile? Yes - T ask all the Ss to to the website kahoot ( T will provide the link on the chat box too) - T will share the screen and start the game. - after the game T will get the feedback.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

-T ask the Ss to think about their favourite holidays, they will have 1 minute to think while T set up breakout rooms, and ask all the Ss to turn on the cameras, if they cannot to turn on the microphone to set pairs of active Ss. - T will inform they are going to talk in pairs about their holidays and they should pay attention because T will ask questions after, they will have 4 minutes for this activity, all story should be tell using past simple tenses. - ICQ- Are you going to talk by yourself?No/ Are you going to pay attention on your classmate story? Yes. Should you use present tenses? No, Should you use Simple Past tenses?Yes. -T monitor and give feedback. - Ss will be back to Main room and share their classmates stories.
