Main Aims

  • To intoduce and provide practice of speaking for fluency in context of memorable events.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To use the target language fluently in a conversation.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T. shows students a picture she took at a conference with her old students and elicits some questions from them to answer. Later she shares her personal memorable event with the learners. T. nominates 2-3 students for feedback about the topic.

Content Preparation (6 minutes) • To provide students with usueful language they can use to do the speaking.

T.give Ss the usueful language to use and do the speaking in two sections: Students work in pairs to interview each other, using these phrases in: (a)DESCRIBING THE EVENT : Looking back, what I remember best was………… It was absolutely fascinating. It was rather disappointing. Again, in asking about the events they will use the questions in: (b) ASKING ABOUT THE EVENT: What impression did you get of……..? How many people were there with you? Was it how you’d expected?

Language Analysis (6 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the task language

Meaning T. shares a link in the chat box, asks students to read and choose the correct meaning for the phrases given. T. shows a PPP for feedback. Pronunciarion T. shows a PPP for pronunciation practice, ask students to show or write the stressed word in the chat box and nominates 2 -3 students to drill pronunciations of the repeated words.

Speaking (20 minutes) • To use the target language to talk about the topic fluently.

T. will first talk or remind students about her memorable event using the target language. T. then puts students in pairs and asks them to discuss with their partners about a memorable event they have attended using the target language; teacher monitors in various breakout rooms to give help or check if they are using the language. Also to note down some of the languge they are using whether it is in the past or present. For clarification I'll tell them that they should use the past tense to talk about the events. They will talk about the topic twice or 3 times if time allows with different peers.

Feedback and Error Correction (8 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T. nominates 2-3 students to report what their friends said. T. involves Ss center with feedback on the language based on the monitoring of the task.
