Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- T shares screen - T tells students that today's topic is the legalization of drugs - T reads the questions on the board: 1. Are illegal drugs a problem in your country? 2. Why do you think people use illegal drugs? - T tells students they are going to discuss the question in breakout rooms for 2 minutes. -T asks ICQ's: 1. Do you have to write or discuss it? - Ss go to breakout room - Ss come back for OCFB

Exposure (5-6 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

- T explains: A drug called POP is becoming popular and causing major controversy in Toronto. Right now, POP is a 'street drug but the government is trying to decide if it should be legalized. - T share screen -T explains to Ss that they have to read the effects of the drug POP and write three points for legalizing this drug and three points against (Scaffolding) (5 minutes) - After writing Ss give some reasons why it should be legalized or why it shouldn't

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

- T shares screen - T explains that they are going to learn some useful words for the later debate. - T explains that they have to drag the missing word to the blank space and say whether that word is an adjective, noun, and so on. ( 2 minutes) - Ss go to breakout rooms to discuss their answers (2 minutes) - Ss come back for OCFB and for pronunciation (3/4 minutes)

Feedback and Error Correction (20-25 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

- T asks who is for and who is against legalizing drugs like POP - T makes breakout rooms where one person is for and the other is against. - Ss are sent to breakout rooms for 5 to 10 minutes so that in total we can have ss switch partners at least once. - Before changing partners, Ss come back to get some DEC if there was any mistake and some useful comments that they can use in their next discussion. - After they switch partners they will come back to get some OCFB and hear the other teams ideas - Ss go to breakout rooms one more time if time allows - If not they will cover DEC with the T
