Description

In this lesson, the students learn about present simple with games and Listening, students listen to Elspeth, a journalist from Dublin, talking about a dating experiment in which her mother chooses dates for her from a dating app.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and specific information listening practice using a text about a dating experiment in the context of online dating

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a a dating experiment in the context of dating or meeting new people

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- T greet the Ss and ask them what is an online date app - T ask the SS to share their opinion and experience in online dating apps in groups. - Ss go to breakout rooms and discuss about it for 2 minutes - T ask the students for feedback.

Pre Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the te xt and make it accessible

-T introduce a hangman game to Ss, each word will have a picture next to the hang to help the Ss. - Ss will guess the letters and occasionally guess the word.( Swipe, Enthusiastic and Embarrassed). - T will drill the meaning from Ss. - T ask CCQ questions- Enthusiastic is a feeling? It is a good feeling? Embarrassed is a good or bad? Is it a noun or an adjective? - T will be showing and drilling from students repetitions and the stress of the words.

While Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

-T ask the Ss to work individually, for this part, it will be audios and they should make notes. - ICQ questions- Are you going to work individually or in groups?/ Are you going to make notes? - T ask the Ss to read question A (pag. 9 from SB), after check if all Ss read the question, play for the first time the Audio 1.19. - T monitor if everyone answer the questions and play the audio one more time, if needed. -T elicit the answers with justifications from the Ss. Same will be done for questions b, c,d and e. - T will monitor and elicit all the answers. - T ask for feedback

While Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

- T will show the Ss question F (pg 9) to initiate discussions about dating and letting family member or someone else arrange dates or possible girlfriends and boyfriends. - T will monitor the discussion and guide to all the Ss be able to express their opinions - After Ss finish, T will check if the Ss have questions and finish the lesson. - T provide feedback

Post Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

- T ask the students to take a picture or print screen of the image (crossword) and in groups find out the answers. They will have 8 minutes to finish the crossword. ICQ- Are you going to take a picture of the crossword?- Yes/How many minutes do you have?- 8 minutes/ Are you working alone?- No, in groups - Ss will discuss in groups the answers of the crossword. -T will be monitoring the breakout rooms and helping any difficulties they might find. - Ss will fill the gap in the screen. - T ask for feedback
