Main Aims

  • To enable students practice and revise functional language in general and particular, and differentiate the difference

Subsidiary Aims

  • To enable students to clearly understand grammar by teaching them the language analysis, practice their reading skills by providing them Gist task, and to enable the students to practice their fluency in English speaking by discussing their opinions.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T and SS will introduce each other T will provide a link by google jamboard (https://jamboard.google.com/d/1caHdKMypsvdSDQNYfRqOGbqqk0dGu4TKfW_6ORKZHvo/viewer?f=0) T will ask Ss to discuss about the topic and individually post an answer, they will be given 2 minutes T will conduct OCFB

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T will prepare a gist tasks which consist of Ss to skim through the passage A and answer all the questions. Link will be sent by google forms. Individually, Ss will answer all the questions. Ss will discuss the answer in pairs through private chat, they will be given 2 minute. OCFB, T will discuss the answer. T will ask Ss whether question C or D is general or specific. Ss will have some idea what is functional language in general and specific

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T will prepare language analysis for functional language. T will cover meaning by playing a little game: requires the Ss to match the sentence to either general or specific. If Ss don't make a mistake, T will further assist by CCQ T will cover form asking Ss what tense it it and require the Ss to provide the form. T will cover pronunciation by pronouncing the sentence and ask Ss whether there is a linking, where is the main stress and intonation by asking Ss whether it is a statement or question. T will provide two examples of question intonation and statement intonation, and require the Ss which intonation is appropriate.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T will provide exercises in general and specific functional language T will send link by google forms T will ask Ss to answer all the questions individually, they will be given 2-3 minutes T will ask Ss to check answers in pairs, they will be given 1-2 minutes T will conduct OCFB

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T will write question in chat box "choose 1 famous person and discuss how that person has changed our lives" T will break room Ss will discuss the topic in their break a room, they will be given 2-5 minutes T will conduct OCFB and ask Ss "tell me in one sentence how that person changed our lives" Ss will be required to use either general or specific functional language to answer the question T will ask Ss, the sentence provided whether it's general or specific Lesson end
