Description

In this lesson the learners will have clarification between subject and object pronouns and how to use them properly in a sentence. The students will begin with a lead-in then, the have a presentation task, we will move on to clarification, a controlled practice and then finish with a freer practice to check understanding.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of object pronouns, review and practice of celebrities, musicians, authors, actors, dancers, singers, football players in the context of Within the world of celebrity

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a through talking about likes and dislikes

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will have a slide with 2 questions: who is it? and What is their job? I will then have various celebrities and images so as to elicit usage of the subject pronouns he,she, they and allow some interest in our aim to develop.

Presentation through the text (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I will show the students a slide with 2 columns one showing the subject pronouns and one showing the object pronouns. At the beginning I will have celebrities names in the places where they will be replaced by students with the pronouns. We will work as a group, replacing the nouns in the first column with subject pronouns and the second column with object pronouns. On the next slide the Ss will work individually and then check answers with a partner, as this is a bit of a challenge to do online I will guide through CCq's. T-look at these sentences. Do we replace the nouns with the object pronoun? yes

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T shows slides identifying object pronouns and explaining meaning. T then shows slide showing the proper placement of the object pronouns asks the Ss Where is the object pronoun? T elicits answers from Ss. T shows slide of pronunciation Ss model the pronunciation chorally and some individually.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T shows slide with celebrity names and asks the students to choose the correct object pronoun for each sentence. T asks students to work individually and then to check answers with the group. T checks understanding of instructions: Will you choose the object pronoun? yes T. will you check your answers with the group ? yes. After 2-3 minutes T: will show the slide with the correct answers, allow the students to self-check and provide FB to the group

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

T: give a survey of celebrities and activities (this was previously emailed to all of the students so that I can tally the results to show them. The students will ask and answer about their loves, likes and don't likes. T. will instruct the students to answer individually. Using the correct pronoun each Ss will answer how they feel about each celebrity. T: will offer FB following.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T will show a slide with instructions to ask another Sf 'if they like ......(celebrity, author, singer, sports team, player, actor, actress or activity' when a Ss agrees then the first Ss should say ?we both like her, him, them' Ss with stronger speaking ability can add on to why they like this person. T: will wrap up by providing FB to all Ss and offering DEC.
