In this lesson students will compare present perfect vs Present perfect continuous.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of present perfect and present perfect continuous in the context of achievements

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a present perfect and present perfect continuous in the context of personal achievements
  • To provide gist listening practice using a text about present perfect and present perfect continuous in the context of personal situations

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-T displays some photos to create a story. What kind of problems do you think the girl has ? - Instructions: You will go to brake out rooms and discuss the question.

Exposure (5-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

- T will share a google form link. Instructions: You will listen to and audio and provide a title for the story. -FB- Ss will compare their answers via private message. Intensive task: -T will share a Google forms link where students will need to put the dialogue in the best order. Instruction: You will open the link have a quick reading of the dialogues, then you will listen to the audio and you'll need to order them. FB- T ask Ss to read the dialogue in order to focus on the target language and extract the marker sentences.

Language Clarification M, F, P (10-12 minutes) • To clarify language in items of Meaning, form and pronunciation.

-T will elicit information form some sentences she will show. e.g. I've left about ten messages on his voice mail. CCQs: When did the action start in the present or in the past? In the past Am I still sending messages ? No T will elicit the following information from students. Form: Can you tell me the structure of the sentence? Subject +have + verb in past participle + complement. Pronunciation: Stress: left, messages, voice mail. Linking: left about -Ss will need to find the differences between the two tenses.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

-T will share a Google form link. Instructions: You will need to choose the correct tense for each sentence. You'll have 4 minutes. ICQ: Do you need to choose between present perfect and present perfect continuos? Yes. -Ss will share answers via private messages. Fb- Will compare answers together.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

- Students get in pairs( or group of 3) to talk about things they have achieve or have been achieving during this months. Instruction: You will need to share with your partner 3 achievement yo have rich, and 3 achievement you have been reaching during the last 2 months. e.g. I have finished my literature course, I have been doing my Celta course. ICQS: Do you have to talk about your future plans? NO. Do you have been during during this last months? yes Fb -We'll share some answers all together.
