Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, learners will have practiced their speaking fluency by asking for and giving recommendations in the context of planning a trip

Subsidiary Aims

  • Learners will have also clarified the language used when asking for and giving recommendations in the context of planning a trip.
  • Learners will have also discovered the MAFP of a few new lexical items related to the topic.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To contextualise the lesson and activate background knowledge

Instructions: Talk what this question in pairs! T-S interaction: T shows a Jamboard to students. PW interaction: learners get the link to the Jamboard and discuss the question in Breakout Rooms. T-S interaction: in OCFB students share their answers.

Content Preparation (4-6 minutes) • To allow learners to come up with ideas and/or concepts which support the completion of the task

Instruction: Work with a partner and answer some questions. T-S interaction: The teacher shows the link in Google Docs to learners. PW interaction: Learners get the link and discuss the four questions in Breakout Rooms. T-S interaction: T starts OCFB by asking the questions, students must write down some of their answers in the Chat Box.

Language Preparation (4-6 minutes) • To provide input on useful language which can help learners complete the speaking task

Instruction: Work with a partner and answer some questions. T-S interaction: The teacher shows the link in Google Docs to learners. PW interaction: Learners get the link and work on their own. Then they discuss their answers in Breakout Rooms. T-S interaction: T starts OCFB by asking showing the Answer Key. T asks some CCQ's to make sure students understood the TL.

Speaking Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide opportunities for learners to practice speaking for fluency in a communicative manner

First Task Instructions: Look at the dialogues, complete with your own words! (3 minutes) T-S interaction: The teacher shows the first task using Jamboard. T selects a student to model the first exercise. PW interaction: Learners go to Breakout Rooms and work on the task. T-S interaction: T goes from the different Breakout Rooms to take notes on students' work. Then T will conduct a brief OCFB if necessary to give students some advice on their work. Second Task Instructions: Create a conversation using some of the language given. T-S interaction: The teacher shows the second task using Jamboard. T selects a student to model it. PW interaction: Learners go to Breakout Rooms and work on the task. T-S interaction: T goes from the different Breakout Rooms to take notes on students' work. Then T will conduct a brief OCFB if necessary to give students some advice on their work. Third Task Instructions: Select one of the two situations and create a dialogue using the language and context given. T-S interaction: The teacher shows the third task using Jamboard. T selects a student to model it. PW interaction: Learners go to Breakout Rooms and work on the task. T-S interaction: T goes from the different Breakout Rooms to take notes on students' work.

Content and Language Feedback (5-6 minutes) • To provide feedback on the learners’ contributions and ideas, and accurate and inaccurate samples of learners’ language

Feedback on Content: T-S interaction: T will ask learners: Who gave good recommendations? Who was of more help in the planning of the trip? Feedback on Language: T-S interaction: T will write some of the learners' utterances on the board. They have to decide if they were correct or not. PW interaction: Learners discuss the statements. T-S interaction: Learners share their ideas with the teacher and T confirms the correct statements.
