Description

In this lesson students learn and practice the different prepositions of place,they will do this by completing different activities.

Materials

Main Aims

  • Recognise the prepositions of place (on -at- in - in between- behind - under)
  • To distinguish between the different prepositions of place by using them in sentences correctly.
  • To provide practice of Prepositions of place for accuracy and attain fluency

Subsidiary Aims

  • To attain fluency by speaking with prepositions

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ss will discuss with each other in groups the topic Teacher: Discuss with your partner what your room looks like" ICQ " Will you do this alone or in pairs? in pairs" Students will have 3 mins to complete task, and (2min) for OCFB

Exposure (7-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Here Ss will read a text about a description of 'my room' where they will be exposed to preposition of place which is the (TL) they will then complete the exercise following the text. Q Write a suitable title for the text Answer " Where things are in my room" Q how many prepositions are in the text A: "ok class you have 5mins to read the text and complete the exercise" ICQ "will we complete the exercise alone?" yes " do we need to read the text to answer the questions? yes" T gives example of how to complete questions so it is more clear students will be then placed in BK rooms for (2min) and then return for ocfb (1min)

Clarification (11-12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Students will understand what exactly prepositions mean and how to jse them correctly Task T will introduce a guided discovery task where Ss will match the correct prepositions to the picture ICQ "Are working individually? yes" T " I want you to choose the correct preposition". Meaning CCQ "is there a difference between 'at' and 'on' ? yes" Is 'at' more specific or general? specific? specific." CCQ " is the preposition 'in between' next to two objects, or one? " two Form CCQ T "when we are discussing preposition of place, are we talking about nouns or verbs? nouns" "if there is a preposition after to a verb, is it an adverb? yes" Prono=unciation T focuses on stress of words and then uses drills to correct any errors CCQs T "is the stress at the beginning or end of the word 'under'? the beginning "can we see any linking here 'in between' ? yes

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ss will individually complete a 'fill in the blanks task to test for accuracy. (5min) They will then return to bk rooms for ocfb (3mins) T "you will have 5 mins to complete this task, we will need to fill in the blanks by using the correct prepositions" ICQ "will we complete this execrise in pairs? no" Answers 1c 2c 3b 4b 5a 6a 7c

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ss will practice fluency by discussing the following "using newly learnt prepositions discuss with your partner where objects are in your room?" ICQ "you will have 5mins to complete this task, are you going to be in pairs for this task? yes"
