Main Aims

  • To provide product writing practice of a review in the context of movies

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice using a movie review


Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- T greets learners. - Ss discuss the question: "What's the movie you never get tired of watching? Why?" in breakout rooms, they will have 4 minutes to do so. - OCFB

Layout (8-10 minutes) • To analyze and/or identify elements of layout that provide coherence and cohesion in the text.

- Students analyze the text and identify one or two relevant features of layout.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To analyze and/or identify language conventions in the text.

- Ss analyze the text and identify relevant language conventions according to text-type, genre, and audience.

Parallel Writing (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice the layout and language conventions seen in some writing exercises.

- Ss practice completing sections of a similar model text.

Freer Writing (8-10 minutes) • To produce a similar text based on the sample for fluency purposes.

- Ss write a text similar to the sample previously analyzed with the intention of using the conventions of the genre in a freer manner.

Delayed error correction • To correct learners' language mistakes so they can improve.

- T uses whiteboard to highlight mistakes and correct them.
