Description

In this lesson, the Ls will practice listening for a general idea and then listening for specific information. The context will be set by a photo from the book of a women who was a teacher, but now works as a plumber. Then Ls will listen to three people and answer two exercises before they practice speaking in the context of doing something different.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T shows a picture and elicit some ideas from Ls. - Ls are divided into two groups to answer a question - T conducts feedback after they finish.

Pre-Listening (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T pre-teaches some vocabulary: - T gives instructions "match the four words to their definitions". - Ls compare their answers in pairs. - T checks Ls understanding by asking CCQS when necessary. - modelling / drilling. - highlight form and pronunciation.

While-Listening #1 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist listening task

-T sets the context ' you will listen to three people talking about doing different jobs" -T gives instructions ' listen and match the names to the statements' - T demo with the Ls. -Ls check their answers in pairs when they finish. - Key answer is provided with thorough feedback.

While-Listening #2 (11-13 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging listening practice (listening for specific information)

T re-sets the context " you will listen to the same track again to do another exercise". -T shows the exercise to Ls and gives them time to read the statements before listening. -T gives instructions " listen and write T or F next to every statement" -Ss are asked if they need to listen again. -Ls compare their answers in groups. -T elicits the answer and provides thorough feedback.

Post-Listening (speaking task) (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ls will be asked to answer two questions with their partners Would you like to do what any of these people are doing? Why? Why not? - Ls will be given a minute to prepare themselves. - Ls are divided into two groups. T conducts open class feedback: (content) (Language feedback)
