Description

In this lesson, students will start talking about making decisions and how they have impacted their lives. Then they will match a series of sentences that will put them in contact with target language. After that, students will analyse Meaning, Form and Pronunciation of the target language. Later, they will move on to the controlled practice. Finally students will do the the freer task in which they will speak about making decisions and how they impacted their lives.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide practice and clarification of hypothetical situations in the past in the context of making decisions

Subsidiary Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, students will have had the chance to practice the productive skill of speaking about hypothetical situations in the past in the context of making decisions

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students will be given three minutes to talk about one important decision and how it has impoacted their lives. They will work in pairs in the break out rooms. Then they will receive OCFB.

Test #1 (5-6 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

Students will match five sentence halves with their corresponding parts. They will work in pairs in the break out rooms and then, they will receive OCFB.

Teach (8-10 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

In the clarification stage, students will analyse the target language in terms of Meaning, Form and Pronunciation. First, students will answer five CCQ's about the meaning of two sentences which describe hypothetical situations in the past. Then, students will identify the verb tenses involved in expressing hypothetical situations in the past by means of selecting the correct alternative in a multiple choice activity. After that, students will identify the verb tenses that make up the third conditional. Finally, students will practice pronunciation of weak forms of hypothetical situations in the past.

Test #2 (6-8 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

Students will answer a filling in the gaps task with the corresponding verb tenses used in the target language. They will work in pairs in the breakout rooms prior to OCFB.

Free practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students discuss about two important decisions decisions, how they impacted their lives and how different their lives would be if they hadn't made such decisions.

Feedback (4-5 minutes) • To provide feedback to students
