Description

In this lesson students will know about listening for gist(main idea)and listening for specific information .First of all,I am going to prepare students to get the concept across .I am going to show them three pictures of famous people I would like to meet ."I would like to go on a date with ....... .ask them about their favourite character to raise their interest in the topic .Second,pre teaching for vocabulary used for the task.I will check instructions and let them listen to tap .sts will check their answer in pairs finally,I will check their answers with them.

Main Aims

  • The students will get the idea of listening for both scanning and skimming , get main ideas and specific information easily.

Subsidiary Aims

  • The students will practice speaking for fluency answering questions to be discussed in pairs or small groups .

Procedure

Lead in (5-8 minutes) • Introduction - Lead in

First of all, I am going to show some pictures of some famous people in the Turkish society, tell the students that one of them " I would like to go on a date with... to get the concept across as it is what the listening about.Then,I will ask the students to write the names of 3 people they would like to meet and why. the sts mingle and share their opinions. Finally,I will get WC BB.

Pre-teaching of vocabulary (2-4 minutes) • few vocabularies needed for the listening task.

I will use OHP to show pictures of (river -bridge )and ask students about and also I will eliciting meaning using realia of a word (v) a gift to my wife for anniversary ,and check understanding of words using CCQs . another step of drilling also ,I will use MFP and after writing ask them about stress .

Gist Listening (4-5 minutes) • I am going to remind students of their prediction

I am going to establish characters ,Nancy,Sebastian and Jason.I will write their names on the board , and also,I will write two questions for gist "How do the people know each other?-Why are they telephoning?" before laying the audio track I will check instruction"ICQs" .students will listen to the audio for the first time. check their answers in pairs and I will WCFB

Listening for details (8-10 minutes) • Listening for specific information (sanning)

I will let them read exercise number 2 .and ask them to listen and complete the information .After listening I will let them check their answers in pairs.at that time I will monitoring them ,let them listen again if necessary.,check again before WC FB

Post listening task (4-5 minutes) • time for student to practice speaking skill

I will use the discussion questions inTB bg.52 "discussion starters" I will let someone out give them the questions .let them discuss in pairs or small groups .get some WC FB.
