Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and review of Simple Past Tense and Past Tense Continuous in the context of Travel

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide The three sentences that contain past and past continuous

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

To ask learners If they like traveling by plane? Where did they go? Have they ever missed a flight?

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

To give the students a copy of the blog post on page 28 (Outlook) and ask them to select the correct verb. Hopefully this will give them the three sentences that we will analyse later

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

This hopefully will be completed by reviewing the answers of the blog.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I have decided to try to concentrate on the comparision of the past and past continuous form in the postive tense only. Main reason: The class is only 45 minutes so there will not be enough time to cover positive, negative and interrogative in one class.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Gap filling exercise provided on page 29 (Outlook Pre-intermediate)

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

To discuss one or two questions provided on page 29
