Main Aims

  • By the end of this lesson, students will have practiced the present perfect simple in the context of acquiring new life habits.

Procedure

Lead in (3 minutes) • To engage the students in the lesson

T will ask ss "Have you taken on a new habit in this past months?". T will show this task to ss and send it to them. T will tell them they have 2 minutes and no need to submit the form. T makes sure to give them the task on the chat box first before sending them to breakout rooms ICQ them - time/type of task/no need to submit the form Breakout rooms T conducts OCFB by asking two students

Intensive task (5 minutes) • To contextualize the language in a text/situation

T will show this next activity to ss. which they need to read and check boxes for answers. "Ok, I am going to give you this text which I would like you to read by yourself while you check the boxes for the correct answers. Do not submit it. You have 1 minute to do that individually" Send link to chat box first ICQ them for what to do/no submission/time/ind or in group "Now you are going to check your answers together with your peers. You can submit your task after. You have 2 mins." ICQ them for what to do/submission/time/ind or in group T conducts OCFB - 1 min

Clarification (10-12 minutes) • To clarify the target language (meaning, form and pronunciation)

T will show a task to ss where they search for true meanings to three sentences. "Ok, guys so here is a task where you need to select the true meanings for these sentences. There can be more than one meaning. You have 2 minutes. You are going to do this individually." Send link to ss first ICQ them/what to do/ind or group/time T will conduct OCFB/CCQ to elicit the right meanings - 2 minutes T will show a task to ss where they check the possible ways in which the present perfect is formed. "Ok, guys so here is another task where you need to select how the present perfect is formed in each of these sentences. There can be more than one correct answer. You have 2 minutes. You are going to do this individually." Send link to them first ICQ them/what to do/ind or group/time T will conduct OCFB/CCQ to elicit the right form - 2 minutes T will model and ask students to repeat words to go over pronunciation - 2 mis/whiteboard

Controlled practice (7-9 minutes) • To provide students with hands on practice and accuracy

T will give ss a practice task. "Ok, everyone, I’m going to send you a link an exercise. For this exercise, write the past simple or the present perfect for each sentence on a piece of paper. Not on the slide. You also need to use the word in the brackets. You will have 3 minutes to this individually" Send the link to chat box first ICQ them/what to do/no writing on the slide/time/ind or group "Ok, now I am sending you to join a partner in the breakout rooms. You will discuss your answers with each other. You will have 2 minutes." ICQ them/what to do/no writing on the slide/time/ind or group T conducts OCFB - 2 minutes

Freer practice (7-10 minutes) • Students will practice their oral skills with the TL

T will show the activity on screen and explain it to them. SS will practice the language from this lesson by talking in groups. They have 5 minutes.
