This lesson is about the bike situation in the district of Ecobici in Mexico City. Students will learn about the way the system works in the town and wlll come away from the lesson with more information about bike systems in other countries and also learn more vocabulary about it.

  • To provide gist and scan reading practice using a text about bikes in the context of different countries bike systems

Warmer/Lead-in (4-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T-Ss T Shows a 2 minute video of bikes to Ss Ss-T Ss watch the video, guess what it's about T-Ss T shows pictures of the Mexico flag and country Ss-T Ss give feedback on where the country is. T-Ss T aks them what they know about Mexico

Pre- Reading (5-6 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T-Ss T shows Ss the region of Ecobici T-Ss T elicits the name of the region and place. Asks Ss about the pictures Ss-T Ss repeat the vocabulary of the T and ccq's are asked. T-Ss T asks Ss to predict what the topic is about.

Highlighting (7-7 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T-Ss T asks Ss more questions about the topic so they understand what it is. Ss-T Ss reply with their assumptions of the topic. T-Ss T elicits new vocabulary for Ss to prepare for reading Ss-T Ss repeat the vocabulary and the definitions as the T elicits

Clarification - While Reading (7-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T-Ss T asks Ss to scan the text to look for clues on questions for gist Ss-T Ss give their answers to the skimming exercise T-Ss T clarifies their answers and gets feedback T-Ss T puts Ss in pairs to find the best meaning for the title

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T-Ss - T makes Ss answer True or False statements for controlled practice Ss-T Ss do the statments. Give feedback to T T-Ss T checks with feedback to Ss and answers. T-Ss T shows answers for clarification

Semi-Controlled Practice (6-9 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

T-Ss T revises the target language and asks them about the bike system in their own country Ss-T Students take notes and work in pairs and compare answers T-Ss T asks students to give answers and compare.

Free Practice (8-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T-Ss T asks Ss to discuss their ideas about the bike systems in their country Ss-T Ss give feedback and answers from their pair work T-Ss T gets students to elicit their details again
