Main Aims

  • To replace some of the everyday Arabic vocabulary with English ones and to put them into the suitable English context.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To help the students to use the right grammatical structures while putting the given vocabulary in use.

Procedure

Warm Up (4-5 minutes) • To start the session with a funny familiar video from a well-known Arabic movie to grab the student's attention.

Will give them the following instructions before starting the video: 1) watch the video without any side talks 2) Focus on the characters and try to remember more about each character.

Lead In (4-6 minutes) • To Introduce today's vocabulary in the most engaging way possible

1st: Ask the students about the name of the movie? 2nd: Ask them about the characters' characteristics and what do they think of each character? 3rd: Ask them which character is your favourite?

Teaching Vocabulary (15-20 minutes)

MPF & CCQs for each word *Find MPFs attached in the Vocabulary analysis sheet *Find the CCQs below 1- Gutless a) Can this person make a decision or face a dangerous situation on his own? b) When can you call some one so? c) Name any movie character who is "gutless " d) Can you think of another synonym for this word? 2- Naive a) Can that person solve any problem by himself b) Tell me a situation when you felt so c) name any movie character who is "naive" d) Can you think of another synonym for this word? 3)- Bum a) Being such a person is a good or bad thing? b) Can you describe Bum people? c) name any movie character who is "bum" d) Can you think of another synonym for this word?

Controlled Practice (3-5 minutes)

Every Student will match the previous mentioned characters with their characteristics in the vocabulary handout. ICQs includes the exercise rules and the "no side talks rule"

Semi Controlled Practice (5-7 minutes)

Every student should write sentences using the words and the characters they have matched in the controlled practice ICQs includes the exercise rules and the "no side talks rule"

Freer Practice (7-10 minutes) • To make the students engage together again while practicing today's vocabulary lesson.

Students will be divided into group and each group will read a paragraph about a specific person and they will try to re-write the paragraph by using today's vocabulary and at the end, one representative from each team will read the team's paragraph in-front of the whole group. *ICQs includes the exercise rules and explanation and the "don't make fun of each other" rule.

PACS (4-5 minutes) • To correct all the students' mistakes and make sure they've digested the vocabulary in order to move clearly to the grammar part after the break.

I will write all the mistakes I've noticed in the Freer Practice and discuss it with the students on board.
