Main Aims

  • To provide specific information, gist and detailed listening practice using a text about media in the context of TV and radio programmes

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of TV and radio programmes

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1-Welcome all the students and introduce myself. 2-Ask them to look at the images in the PowerPoint presentation and tell where are these people and what are they doing.3-Show them the box and ask if they find these types of programmes on TV or radio or both.4-All answers are accepted.

Pre-Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

1-Introduce the words that is essential to understand the meaning through images and try to elicit the meaning . 2-Check their understanding by asking CCQs when needed.3-Drill the words.4-Write the words or show them on the PPT.

Listening task 1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening tasks

Set the context -Tell the Ss that they are going to listen to 5 extracts from different types of radio or TV programme -Then they listen to the audios one by one -After listening to each of them , they have to tell the type of the programme and where it is likely to be.

Listening task 2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

The students have to read the question in Ex.5 for 1 minute and then listen one more time to the audios -Then I will ask them to answer the questions immediately after each audio.Then I will give them a chance to check their answers together.

Post-Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

I ask the students to discuss the question in Ex.1 in groups or pairs depending on their numbers.It will provide them with a speaking practice
