Description

In this lesson, students learn about how to talk about shopping experiences; they are required to read an article about a custome's unpleasant experience with one of the sale-assistants; students will reflect upon the article and its main message, and discuss it in regard to their culture. Throughout the lesson, students will review the vocabulary related to shopping and sale and practice it together;

Materials

Abc English File, Student e-Book 4th Edition; Intermediate level

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a daily conversation in the context of Shopping experiences

Subsidiary Aims

  • Develop reading and comprehension skills using a text about customer services and client treatement in the context of shopping and sale.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Expose the students for the Shopping context (lesson's funny quote is related to the lesson) Students need to predict themselves what the lesson will be about through the given pictures. a short discussion about who likes/dislikes shopping and why

Pre-Reading/ Topic vocabulary (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Present the required words for the text (customer, sale-assistant etc.) A short activity to review common phrases regarding shopping

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Students have to read initially the article's title and check out its picture; guess what is about and write their predictions in a piece of a paper, Secondly, students need to read the whole text silently, including questions then discuss their answers in the break-out rooms

Post-Reading/ (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

The post reading stage will be a follow-up activity, in which students are required to discuss the article topic, discuss it in regard to their culture.
