Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Share Gathering Photos Jamboard Link and screen. Ask students To give a thumbs up of those who have been to a concert, sporting event, carnival, protest, or another large gathering. Nominate students to answer: 1. Do you enjoy being in huge crowds? Why/what not?

Exposure (5-6 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Say: Look at the pictures in the Jamboard again. In breakout rooms, discuss what adjectives can you use to describe the pictures? Clarify adjectives by giving definition: they describe and noun. You will have 4 minutes in your breakout room. Bring students back. Solicit responses for "What adjectives did you use to describe the pictures?"

Highlighting (6-7 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Share link to Ex. 1 Extreme Adjectives Form. Ask students to open the link and complete the Form by matching the extreme adjective with their equivalent or meaning. Say: You will have about 3 minutes to complete this. Send students to breakout rooms to talk about their answers. Say: You will have about 2 minutes to talk about your answers. Bring students back. Solicit answers for the Ex. 1 Extreme Adjectives Form highlighting the escalation form column B to column A extreme adjectives.

Clarification (4-5 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Ask Meaning CCQs. Share link and screen of Extreme Adjectives MFPA Slides. Work through interactive slides with the students for student discovery.

Controlled Practice (7-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Share link to Ex. 3 Form. Say: Please open the link and complete the exercise on your own. You will have 7 minutes.

Semi-Controlled Practice (6-7 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Say: I'm going to send you to breakout rooms and you have 5 minutes to compare your answers to Ex. 3. Bring students back and check together highlighting the extreme adjectives.

Free Practice (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Say: To practice using extreme adjectives, I am going to send you in pairs to breakout rooms to interview each other on a big event that your partner has attended. Share Free Practice Form that includes useful language phrases and useful interview questions. Say: The link I shared in the chat is to help you interview your partner. Keep your answers short and try to use as many extreme adjectives as you can. You will have 4 minutes each to interview each other. Write your interview in the form and click submit when you are done. Ask instruction CCQs: Are you writing your interview Of your partner in the space provided in the Form I shared In the chat? Yes Are your responses going to be long or short? Short What type of adjectives are you going to try and use a lot of in your short answers? Extreme adjectives How many minutes each do you have to interview your partner? 4 Send students to breakout rooms in pairs. Bring students Back for delayed language feedback if time and necessary.
