Main Aims

  • In this lesson Students will practice verb collocations in the context of " New Years resolutions ".

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide Ss to practice listening skill in the context of " New Year's resolutions".

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set context of " New Year's resolution and and engage the students.

T: greats the students and asks: Do you like New Year? T: I like New Year.it is a new beginning. T: I celebrate New Year with my family. T: We usually stay at home,have dinner, play games and dance. T: Every New Year I make resolutions,for example ; I'm going to get fit. I'm going to work less. T: In pairs,discuss , T: How do people celebrate New Year in Turkey? T: Do people make New Year's resolutions in Turkey? What are they? ICQ. T. monitors.Whole Class FB.

Test #1 (3-5 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

T: l have some New Year resolutions in my hand. T.shows the cut-ups. T: There are some verbs on the wall. T: In pairs, match them. T. Drills the verb collocations. T. Points where the stresses are.

Teach (2-4 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

T:In your groups, match the pictures with them. ( on the wall verb collocations) T. elicits the meaning through visuals. T. Check the other matchings and corrrect if needed.

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

T: Look at the picture. T: In pairs,discuss, Where are they? Who are they? What do they talk? T. monitors. T. elicits the answers. T: We are going to listen Jack, Meg, Val, David and Ed. T: Individually, match the people with their New Year"s resolutions. T. plays the CD (R 11.1) T: Compare and check your answer. T: calls out different Ss and make them write the answers on the board. A: Jack, B:Mag C David, D Ed, E Val.

Controlled Practice (5-7 minutes) • to get them practice the verb collocations.

T. shows the Handout. T. Individually, fill in the blanks with words on the wall. T: Check your answers with your partner. T: Listen and check. T: plays the CD. 2.holiday, 3. move, 4 computer course , 5 fit / smoking , 6 loose, 7 exercise, 8 sweet things

Free Practice (10-12 minutes) • To provide students practice verb collocations.

T. Turns the music on T: You are at a party now. T: Stand up and ask your friends about their New Year's resolutions. T. modals the conversation.
