Description

This lesson aims to help students understand the difference between do and make, and to get familiar with their collocations in English

Materials

Abc Make vs Do:Vocabulary in use.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of Make and Do in the context of daily life (activities, plans, tasks, building etc..)

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification about do and make collocations; avoid common translation mistakes from L1 to L2 regarding these two verbs

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

In the pre-teaching stage, I will try to apply eliciting, CCQ to help students get the big picture about Make and Do.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

I will display two big lists about activities, expectations, repetitive tasks, products, results and ask them to find differences, which one goes with do and which one goes with make I want to guide students through this task to find out themselves the rule about when to use make and when to use do

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

The first audi will present a set of conversations that have different situations of differents people: personalize the context in which these two verbs are used

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

We will have a second listening task,in which students are required to do matching; these bits of audio are taken from real life scenarios, in which people express their requests, complaints, suggestions etc..I believe this will help students to apply the use of make and do in real life context.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

THis is something that will be provided throught the lesson and definitely the last section of the lesson will help me to identify whether students get it right or not. (Did they manage to get the meaning and use of each collocation)
