To provide gist reading practice using a text about childern's definitions of a mother in the context of childhood
To provide practice of phrasal verbs in the context of childhood.
Procedure (38-45 minutes)
Show ss a picture of the T when she was a child & tell them the story of that picture .Ask the Ss about their childhood memories.
set the context of the text by writing this on the WB .It's someone who tells you it won't hurt when he is hurting you. tell Ss that this is a definition written by a child .Get them to guess who he is.( a doctor)
Ask Ss to read the childern's definitions of a mother after explaining any unknown word such as tuck you in.
ask Ss to share their answers in pairs then have a WC feedback by getting some answers fom different Ss.
Ask Ss to match the phrasal verb with its meaning individually
ask Ss to check in pairs then give them the answerkey
explain(peer teaching) the ones that Ss would find hard to understand by asking Ss in groups of three to answer some CCQS in HOS.
ask Ss to underline the correct particle or preposition in the questions Ex.3 p.88 about childhood
Ask SS to check in pairs then give them the answer key to check their answers.
Show Ss a picture of T's dad and write a statement defining him. A father is the best friend who worries about me when nobody else does! Ask Ss in pairs to write a similar (to the one about mother )definition of a father using the phrasal verbs about childhood that they just learnt.
ask Ss to share their answers with the whole class.
ask Ss to think about the different people who helped to take care of them in their own childhood-parents ,older brothers and sisters,babysitters,etc and then answer the questions in Ex.3 p.88 individually
Ask Ss to share their answers with their partners then have a WC feedback.
ask Ss to think of the most important person who has a great an effect on their life then ask them to tell their partner about that person in three or four sentences.
