In this lesson ss will get to know a new grammar rule (Auxiliary verbs)

Materials

Abc White board and colored markers

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review, and practice the form and usage of the auxiliary verbs

Subsidiary Aims

  • To make the students practice reading for gist

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Write the sentence on the board (Home is where the heart is) and ask what dose it means. divide students into pairs and ask them to practice asking the following question: *where do you live? how big is your house? do you travel every year? Give instructions and assign 30 seconds for each question ICQs: *Are you going to work in pairs or groups? *Are you going to speak or write? *How much time does each one have for the question? After the task, teacher ask any student randomly to talk about his partner answer

Pre-teach, vocabulary (10-12 minutes) • To explain blocking words that may make it difficult for them to understand the reading text

Through visual and CCQs elicit and explain host - guest - airbnb model and drill for correct pronunciation (details are in the analysis sheet) Gist task ask the students to work in pairs and answer the questions from the passage that contain auxiliary verbs without pointing into it They had three minutes to finish this task Ask some ICQs to check if the understand the task *Are you going to work in pairs or groups? *How much time do you have for this activity? *Who start asking questions? Clarification (10-12 minutes) • Use a lexical set to describe houses and building correctly

Ask students to underline the auxiliary verbs and the students should call them out (must, might, could, cant) Ask students how are the auxiliary verbs are used in forming the tenses The auxiliary verb is a verb that add functional or grammatical meaning to the clause in which it appears, so as to express tense, aspects. The main verb provides the main semantic content of the clause CCQs.. *What doe the auxiliary verbs add to the clause *What does the auxiliary verbs express *What does the main verb provides controlled practice: Match sentences from 1-4 with meanings A-C to have the same meaning 1-"B" it must be a holiday home 2-"A" it might me a holiday home 3-"A" it could be a holiday home 4-"C" it cant be a holiday home A- I think its a holiday home (but im not sure) B- Im sure its a holiday home C- Im sure its not a holiday home ICQs.. Students work in pairs and ask questions about their plans for next summer, the first student ask and the second should answer, they have 5 minutes to finish this activity ICQs.. PACS (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Highlight the common mistakes the students made during their speaking and writing activity Try to elicit the correction from student on the board . Provide the answer if they cant spot the mistakes
