A 2 level

Description

This is my last lesson with this class, and I am planning to work on the students' receptive skills (listening), and the topic we will be working on is 'phrasal verbs'.

Materials

No materials added to this plan yet.

Main Aims

  • The main aim of this lesson is listening which is a receptive skill. Students are going to listen to an approximately 3 min listening, and then according to that, they will do some activities to improve their comprehension.

Subsidiary Aims

  • The sub aim of this lesson is 'phrasal verbs'. The students are going to learn and practice different phrasal verbs in different contexts and activities. The activities are going to be semi controlled and free, which helps them understand the subject better and work with it different aspects.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

After greeting, I am going to play a music video about phrasal verbs for the students at the beginning of the class. Some phrasal verbs are mentioned in this video as the presentation of the lesson.

Exposure (15-17 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

There is a 3 min listening that the students are going to listen to, and then according to the listening they have to answer two questions asked in the book which is based on their comprehension of the listening. Then they will listen to the text again and and answer 8 more questions in pairs. The students are supposed to fill in the gaps with the correct numbers they have heard in the listening. I will check the answers after they did the task. At the end, I will ask their opinion about the topic they just listened to.

Pronunciation (4-6 minutes) • To work on students' pronunciation

I will write the symbol of the pronunciation we are going to work on, and ask their opinion about it. Then I will play the CD for them, and they have to repeat each word after they hear it. This may be a good chance for drilling these four words. According to the pronunciation they have just practiced, the students are supposed to answer the second question of the pronunciation part. They will work in groups of 3. I will write the correct answers on the board.

Clarification (10-12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I am going to write several phrasal verbs on small pieces of paper, and also write sentences that contain the meaning of those verbs on other pieces of paper. Then I am going to ask the students stand in a circle in the middle of the class, and give each either a verb or a sentence. They are supposed to find their match and read the verb and the definition loud for their peers. Then they can check their answers using the transcript I give them.

Controlled Practice (3-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

There are 6 sentences that I will hand out the students and ask them to answer them. This will be more practice on phrasal verbs, because they may be confusing, I'm going to focus on them a little bit more. They can check their answers with their peers.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

I will ask the students to be in groups of 3 and write a short paragraph, about whatever they prefer, short story, comic, diary, using the phrasal verbs they have practiced today. It will be a productive practice on what they've learnt.

Speaking Time and Error Correction (5-7 minutes) • more free practice

If I have time, I will ask them 1 of the speaking questions given in the book and discuss on it. And I will also do some error correction.
