Procedure

Lead-in (5-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show sts a picture of an office setting and have them ask and answer Qs in pairs: What are the people doing? Whats sort of company is this? Would you like to work for a company like this? Why/Why not? FB

Pre-Listening Vocab (10-11 minutes) • To prepare students for the listening

1. Show sts the vocab and ask them to guess the words in pairs. Then show them the definitions and have them match words to definitions. FB. Next, model number of syllables and stressed syllable of first word. Have sts do the rest in pairs. FB.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (7-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist task

Show sts the word 'motivate' and elicit part of speech, pronunciation and meaning. Explain that they will listen to people talking about motivation. Look at pictures and guess the ways that companies motivate staff. Listen and check. FB in pairs. Whole class FB.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (8-9 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed task

Tell sts that they will listen again and answer 5 qs. Before they listen, try to guess the answers. Then listen and answer. Check in pairs. FB.

Post-Listening (6-7 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Asks sts to number the ways to motivate staff in order of importance. Sts then talk in pairs to give rationale for their numbering. FB.
