Main Aims

  • To provide gist, scan and detailed reading practice using a text about social media and job opportunities in the context of Job hunting

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of social media and job opportunities in the context of Job hunting

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The students are going to be exposed to two pictures; one for two people are having an interview and the other for Facebook. They will be asked to work in pairs to discuss: 1. What's the relation between these two pictures? 2.How one of them affects the other?

Pre-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

The students will be divided into groups according to their number. Each group will have 3 to 4 cards on which the vocabulary are written and slips of paper on which the definitions are written then they will guess and stick the word to its definition. After they finish we will discuss the vocabulary with their parts of speech and pronunciation.

While-Reading (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

ٍstudents will be assigned a specific part of the reading text in groups to read it and explain it's main idea.

While-Reading (4-5 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Students will answer some questions about the reading passage.

While-Reading (3-7 minutes) • Provide more challenging activity to practice detailed, inference reading

Student will be assigned to put a question to group to ask about details in the reading passage.

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Each student will imagine that they are in an interview and he/she is asked to how their Facebook posts reflect some characteristics that make them eligible for the job. They will work in groups.
