In this lesson, students will practice speaking through the context and and some examples page 40 in the students' book after they learn who they make sentences using the forms of ability and possibility ( can/can't - could/couldn't - be able to ) The lesson starts with a famous sentence for the former president of USA ( Barak Obama in 2007 ) ( YES, WE CAN ) followed by a discussion about something they can do now, in the past and in the future. they will also practice controlled practice and freer practice about this lesson ( ability and possibility ) and also about some situations in their life.

Main Aims

  • For Ss to speak fluency by using accurate sentences through the context ( List of skills ) p.40.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice the ability and possibility forms through the text and the controlled practices.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T greets Ss. T shows a picture and a sentence related to the lesson ( ability and possibility ). T asks Ss to say what are these sentence and this picture refer to. T encourage Ss to elicit sentences related to the lesson ( ability and possibility ). T gives the feedback to the Ss.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

T shows the new vocabulary from the lesson that might be difficult to SS. SS elicit the meaning of these words. then T give the best meaning for these words. T asks CCQS to check understanding. Ss try to form sentences about the lesson. ( ability and possibility ) T monitor and gives the feedback.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T gives the SS some examples about ability and possibility. SS speak to each other using these forms. SS practice some exercises about ability and possibility. SS elicit the rules for using ability and possibility. T monitors and give SS feedback about their answers.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

SS practice speaking through the conversation and exercises page 40. T gives written sample of target language. T practices pronunciation to some words. T plays listening 4.12 to clarify the two conversations. SS practice speaking some sentences I will show to them through the power point presentation. T highlights the forms of ability and possibility.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

SS work in groups and ask each other about the answers of the exercise. SS practise using the forms of ability and possibility through the exercises. T gives general feedback.
