Main Aims

  • To provide gist, scan and detailed reading practice using a text about the effect of social networks on job opportunities in the context of social networks

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of social networks
  • To provide clarification of work-life words in the context of social networks

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I'm going to display the picture of social networks and ask students to discuss with his partner the importance of social media in their lives in 2 minutes. Task ICQs:- 1- Are you going to work alone? (No) 2-Are you going to work with your partner? (Yes) 3-Are you going to work within 2 minutes? (Yes)

Pre-Reading stage (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I'm going to present some new words. (Candidate) by using the synonym (job hunter) CCQs Questions:- Does he need a job? Yes Did he apply for the job? Yes Did he get this job or not yet? Not yet (reputation) by using the definition (they way you are viewed by people) CCQs Questions Is it people's opinion on someone? Yes Does it depend on our actions with others? Yes Pronunciation Form Is it a noun or a verb? A noun Is it a countable or uncountable noun? C (behavior) I'm going to present the meaning using the definition"the way you act with people. CCQs Is it a way of doing actions? yes does it differ from a situation to another situation? yes pronunciation Form is it a noun or a verb? (a noun ) is it a countable noun or uncountable noun? (C noun)

While-Reading #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist information reading tasks

I'm going to ask students to read the text within 5 minutes and discuss the main idea of the text with their partners. ICQs Are you reading to get the main idea or for detail? Yes Are you reading quickly or slowly? Quickly Do you need to understand every word? No After the students finish the task, I'm going to nominate some students to tell me the main idea they got with their partners.

While-Reading #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

I'm going to ask students to read the text again in detail to answer the questions in the handout that I'm chesting in front of the class. ICQs Are you reading to get the main idea or for detail? for detail Are you reading quickly or slowly? slowly I'm going to hand the worksheets out to students and ask them to start reading, then I'm going to monitor students while reading and answering the questions After the students finish the task, I'm going to ask students to discuss their answers with their partners. Finally,I'm going to display the answer key on the board for students to check their answers

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

I'm going to tell students that they are going to work in pairs for 4 minutes discussing another thing in our lives that social media could affect badly. ICQs Are you going to work with your partner or individually? (with my partner) Are you going to write or discuss your opinion with your partner? (discuss) I'm going to monitor students to know if they have any problems or need help. After the students finish the task in the limited time, I'm going to nominate some students to tell the class their opinions.
