Description

In this lesson, students are going to learn how to say dates and the months of the year. The student will also learn how they can use the preposition properly in the context of dates. The lesson ends with a free speaking activity using the context of dates talking about what the students do in their holiday.

Main Aims

  • The students will be able to say dates accurately and learn the ordinal numbers by listening and practicing them in the context of saying dates.

Subsidiary Aims

  • - The students will be able to pronounce the dates and the ordinal numbers correctly in the context of saying dates. - The students will be able speak the dates and the ordinal numbers fluently in the context of saying dates.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-The teacher asks the students to look at the photo and explain what it means. -The teacher asks some students about the photo. When is your birthday?

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

-The T asks the students how we can pronounce the words "three - they" correctly and demonstrates them. - The T asks St to work individually to say the months of the year in the right order in activity A. - The T elicits the first letter of each month. - The T asks Ss to work in pairs then check. - The T gives feedback.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

- The T asks CCQs. Is January the 1st month? Or the second? For months and dates, should I say January number 1 or the first of January? Should I say four or the fourth?

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

- The teacher clarifies when we can use the ordinal numbers. Example: months orders floors orders ...... - The T highlights the pronunciation of some numbers. - The T asks the students to complete the numbers and words in activity A2 individually. - The T asks the students to work in pairs and check their answers. - The T asks the students to check their answers by listening to an audio - The T gives feedback.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

- The T asks the students to get ready by reading the ordinal numbers in 1 min. - The T asks the students to listen carefully and answer the the activity A individually. - The T checks the students answers and gives feedback.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

-The T explains how we can say dates in numbers. - The T elicits how we can use the correct propositions with dates. - The T asks the students to say the dates in activity E. - The T asks the students to listen and check their answers. - The T gives feedback.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

- The T asks the students to have a play role to answer few questions about their own experience in the context of saying dates. - The T makes a model to the activity G. - The T asks the students to ask each other the activity G. - The T checks some of the students answers about their partners.
