Description

In this lesson, 3rd grade pupils will be exposed to the 3rd person present simple verbs. This lesson is the continuum of the previously learned present simple tense with plural nouns and I. By the end of this lesson, ss will be better able to use limited verbs in 3rd person in present simple tense.

Materials

Abc Present simple ppt file

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of the 3rd person singular in present simple tense in the context of Superheroes

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation about daily routines in the context of Superheroes

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I introduce myself and have a chat with ss. I'll give them some information about the lesson.

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I'll talk about my routine and compare it with spiderman. I use the ppt file and try to engage ss with the superheroes. I would encourage them to talk about their superheroes.

Highlighting (4-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I use the ppt to highlight the use of 3rd person singular in the present simple tense. Ss will be asked to make some rules for the use of "s,es,ies". I may not explain all the details as it will be the first exposure to the target language. Some mistakes may not be corrected in this stage of the lesson.

Clarification (3-5 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Since it's the first lesson and the length of the lesson is not enough to work on form and pronunciation in detail, some drilling and a brief explanation will be made.

Energizer (1-2 minutes) • To energize the class

After some grammar clarification, Simon Says will be played to energize the class.

Semi-Controlled Practice (4-5 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Ss will write their sentences about their superheroes. Then, they can read their sentences to the whole class. I will correct or encourage them to correct their mistakes.

Feedback-Homework (2-2 minutes) • To provide students with some feedback and assigning homework

I'll give feedback on their performance and the homework will be assigned.
