In this lesson SS learn about a competition of four people trying to travel from KEW BRIDGE to LONDON CITY AIRPORT on TV programme called TopGear Challenge. There will be a discussion a about means of transport they used to travel followed by reading. Finally there some controlled practice and speaking activity.

Main Aims

  • For Students to practice reading for gist and specific information in the context of TopGear Challenge.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice reading for details about TopGear Challenge . To practice speaking activities.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T greets Ss. T show a picture related to the reading. T asks to say what this picture refers to. T encourage Ss to elicit sentences what is the reading about. SS talk in groups and the T monitors. T gets feedback from SS and comments accordingly.

Pre-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible.

T writes the new vocabulary that might be difficult to SS. SS elicit the meaning of these words. then T give the best meaning for these words. T asks CCQS to check understanding

While-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

T gives the SS few questions about the purpose of the text. SS read the text quickly to understand the whole text. T discuss the answers with the students. T give SS feedback about their answers.

While-Reading (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed about the text.

T asks SS to do exercise d , page 27. SS read the text to find the answer for these questions. T monitor SS to makes sure how does his plan make his students check they have understood. T set up speaking activities clearly and efficiently. T makes sure that his aims clear.

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T ask students more questions about the subject. T sets up speaking activities. T encourage Ss to practice more about the text. Ss work in groups,T monitors, and then gets feedback.
