Main Aims

  • To practice reading skill through the context of "People who changed the world.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide the opportunity to practice phrases ( lexis life event ) and listening through the context of " People who changed the world"

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students to the reading text.

T. draws a circle and writes on the board. ( 1971, high school, university, first job,marriage,two children.) T: i give you some important events in my life.

Pre-Reading #1 (5-7 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and introduce the vocabulary.

T. puts the verbs on the wall. ( Stick them ) T. In groups, There are some verbs on the wall. In my hand there are phrases. Match them. ICQ. T. distributes the phrases to the Ss. T. monitors. T: check your answers with your partner. T. wc feedback. T: Listen and repeat.

Pre-Reading #2 (4-6 minutes) • To arouse interest to the topic.

T. Shows Mandela's picture T: Who is he? What do you know about him? T: In pairs, guess and discuss. T. monitors. T. elicits the answers.

While-Reading #1 (5-7 minutes) • To provide students to read for gist.

T : In pairs, I have some cut-ups.Read the text. Put them in order about Mandela. T.distributes the cut-ups.T. modals the first sentence.: 1d T. monitors. T. gets feedback as a whole class. T. writes the answers on the board. 2c, 3b, 4a, 5e, 6g 7f

While Reading Activity#2 (7-9 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed reading task.

T : Individually, read about Mandela's life. Fill in the gaps with the correct dates and numbers. T : Then check with your partner. ICQ. T. distributes the text. T. Monitors. T: Check your answers with your partner. T: check the answers from the CD.  T. plays the CD R6.5

Post Reading Activity (5-7 minutes) • To provide students practice the collocations through the context.

T: In groups, Discuss, what did you learn about Mandela? T. writes on the board " you learned " T. monitors. T: Writes the answers on the white board. T: There are 3 different world leaders and some information about them. T: In pairs ,discuss and talk about these leaders. T. put the pictures of the leaders. T: In groups, discuss and write FB.
