Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, students will have been provided with a fluency speaking activity in a conversation in the context of study tips..

Procedure

Lead-In (5 minutes) • To introduce the topic, make prediction and engage students.

* Ask Ss to discuss these 2 questions( display them on the projector) in pairs 1. What are the study tips you follow? or \What makes you study easily ? 2. Do you prefer studying alone or in groups ? * Listen to their ideas.

Pre-Reading (10-15 minutes) • To pre-teach the difficult vocabulary and make the text more understandable.

* Use the HO1 and ask students to match the words to the definitions individually and then check their answers with a partner. * Demonstrate one word to make sure they understood the instructions. * Monitor the Ss. * Clarify the meaning of each word with them.

While-Reading 1 (10-12 minutes) • To skim for the main idea.

* Ask students to discuss these questions (on the projector) 1.Do you think the way how we study affects our success?why? 2. What keeps a language learner motivated?o r \How are the language learners motivate themselves? * Ask students to read the text for 2 minutes, to get the main idea, and to check their previous answers. * Let them apply the contextual guessing: guess the meaning a word from the text. CCQs: Are you going to read quickly or slowly? quickly Do you have to understand every single word? no * Check their answers in pairs * Discuss the main idea in a whole class discussion

While-Reading 2 (5-7 minutes) • To scan for specific information.

*Hand them the task. * Demonstrate the 1st one. * Ss work individually. * Clarify that they are looking for specific information. * Monitor them and write down their errors. * Check answers in pairs. * Nominate for feedback.

Post-Reading (10-15 minutes) • To respond to a text and expand on what they have learned.

* Ask students what is their best studying tip? * Project these questions to Ss to discuss it: 1. What other tips do you have for learning a new language\subject? 2. How do you learn from your mistakes? 3. Do you find online learning useful and how? * Monitor Ss * Clarify any mistakes by asking the rest of the class' opinion. * Correct their language mistakes.
