Description

In this lesson students learn about Present Simple through guided discovery based on a text about Britain. The lesson starts with discussion about what is good and bad in Britain. Students learn vocabulary related to habits and daily routines. This is followed by filling gaps activity. Learners practice pronunciation verbs ending in -s and -es. There is some controlled practice and final speaking activity.

Main Aims

  • For students to practice the present simple in the affirmative and negative forms in context of Britain.

Subsidiary Aims

  • For students to understand and use lexical items related to habit.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T greets Ss and asks to what they know about Britain. T shows some photos related to Britain and encourages Ss to give a comments. T gets feedback from Ss and comments accordingly.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

-T pre-teaches/ checks if Ss understand verb phrases related to habit. -T asks CCQs to check understanding. -T asks Ss to work individually and match the words in reading in ex. 2a p.22 -T asks Ss to listen and check answers.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

- T asks Ss to focus on highlighted phrases. - T asks Ss to find verbs used in present simple. -T asks Ss to find negative forms of present simple and complete the chart in ex. C2 p.22

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

-T asks Ss to do exercises on slide and when they are done, they check their answers in pairs -T goes through the answers with Ss and highlights the present simple forms. -T plays the recording in ex.3.6 and drills the examples to practice pronunciation of verbs ending in -s and -es. - T elicit when present simple should be used.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

-T asks Ss to listen sentences in ex. 3.7 and change them accurate.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

-T asks Ss to work in groups and rewrite affirmative and negative sentences in present simple. -T checks answers with Ss.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

-Ss work in pairs and say to each other three positive and three negative sentences about them self. - T provides feedback.
