Main Aims

  • 1. Practicing skimming and scanning skills in reading 2. Increasing Ss’ vocabulary guessing skills

Subsidiary Aims

  • 1. Reinforcing students’reading comprehension skills through listening and speaking 2. Enhanching Ss’ reading comprehension skills such as skimming , scanning, and referencing 3. Enabling students to relate what they watched and read with what they produce


Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students, to enable students to brainstorm. to enable students to activate their schemata

Students watch the video on to answer a question. This is planned as a whole class activity.

Pre-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Students discuss the questions in their groups of three to activate their schemata

While-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading

1- Students will be asked to read the text silently first to answer the main idea question.

While-Reading (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

2- Students will be guided to do the skimming ans scanning exercises first. 3- They will be guided to do the referencing and vocabulary guessing exercises.

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Students will be given a processed follow-up task. In the first step of the task, they interview with their classmates and teachers on the questions they are provided with. In the second step of the task they use the data they have collected and write a paragraph on the topic they have chosen. Finally they submit their paragraphs through its learning to get oral and / or written feedback on their writing feedback.
