Description

In this lesson my students will learn about the simple past form through a reading text. The lesson starts with a lead in connected to the reading text. This will be followed by a pre-teaching vocabulary stage. Students then will be exposed to the grammar point. Finally there are some controlled practice activity followed by speaking activity.

  • To provide students with practice in listening and reading for gist and specific information in the context of Oprah's Winfrey success

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T shows Ss a video T ask Ss questions about the video

Pre-teach vocabulary (3-5 minutes) • To provide Ss with the meaning of the main words in the text

T shows Ss pictures and explain the words Ss try to guess the meaning from the pictures

Listening for gist (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T plays an audio to Ss Ss fill in the gabs T elicit the answers from Ss T gives feedback

Reading for details (3-5 minutes) • Ss practice reading for details

T asks Ss to read the text and answer the questions Ss do the questions T elicit the answers T gives a whole class feedback

Introducing the grammar (4-6 minutes) • To prepare Ss to the grammar spot

Listening for details (4-6 minutes) • Ss use the grammar through text

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Free Practice (4-6 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T divides Ss into groups of two, and asks the first Ss to read the questions in exe. 6 and his partner will answer him from the same exe.
