Description

In this lesson, students will learn about countable-uncountable nouns in the context of edible about food. They will also learn about some quantity expressions such as none, not many, a few, a little, several, a bit some,many, much, a lot, lots, plenty. This is followed by some exercises where they will practice the quantifiers.

Main Aims

  • To provide review and clarification of countable & uncountable nouns in the context of edible-food. To introduce quantity expressions and the use of them with countable and uncountable nouns.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice by asking and answering questions about chocolate. in the context of edible-foo

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will ask the Ss to talk about their favorite Turkish food in pairs. T will elicit some answers and ask them "what are the ingredients of this food?" T will write ((chocolate)) on WB, then ask the students about chocolate and tell them that they will have Some questions about chocolate and in pairs they discuss them and give their opinions.

Stage 1 (5-8 minutes) • To check students' prior knowledge of the target language

T will write (several times a day)- (some chocolate) on the WB and ask Ss some CCQs about (times) and (chocolate). Is times singular? No. Is chocolate plural? No. Then Ss will be given activity 1 grammar to discover the rule themselves. T will elicit the answers and write them on the WB. After that, T will ask Ss to write in pairs as many uncountable nouns as they can about food on a piece of paper given by the T. T will ask them to pass their paper to the next pairs after each 30 seconds.

Stage 2 (3-5 minutes) • To have a controlled practice exercise to differentiate countable and uncountable.

T will ask Ss to do activity 2 to find out which nouns are countable and which are uncountable in pairs and the to check in group of 3 or 4, then T will write on the WB countable and uncountable noun and ask Ss to write nouns elicited from the WC for FB.

Stage 3- (10-12 minutes) • Check students' knowledge about the use of how many and how much

T will ask Ss "what do we use after (how many)? after (how much)? T will elicit the rule and ask them to do exercise 3 to make questions with how many and how much. Ss will check after that in pairs. T will write answers on WB for WCFB.

Stage 4 (8-10 minutes) • To be familiar with quantity expressions

T will tell Ss that they can't answer the first question in exercise 3 with (a little) because friends is countable and (a little ) is used only with uncountable nouns. T then will ask to choose the right answers which are not possible fro the questions. Ss underline the answers and then take turn asking and answering the questions.

Work Book activity 3 (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T will ask the Ss to to do exercise 3 individually and check in pairs afterward. T will ask Ss to right their answers on the board for a WCFB.
