Description

in this lesson ,Ss will learn about the modals of deduction in the context of travelling .Ss will practice listening for gist as well.

Materials

Abc gap-fill HOS- pictures-White board-markers

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of modals of deduction in the context of round -the- world trip.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist listening practice using a text about round -the-world trip. in the context of travelling

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

focus ss' attention on some photos and ask them to discuss in pairs where they think they are.

Feedback (3-5 minutes) • check the Ss understanding & answers

ask ss to report back to the class ,giving reason for decision & discuss with their partners .Do not confirm anything at this stage.then play the recording for the Ss to check their ideas .find out if anyone dot any of the places correct.

Pre-Listening (2 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

set the context of the listening audio and put the names of the four countries on the board .

While-Listening #1 (5 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening tasks

ask Ss to number the photos in the order thy are mentioned in the recording then play the recording.

Feedback (2-3 minutes) • check the Ss understanding & answers

ask Ss to check their answers in pairs then have WC feedback

post-Listening (5 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

go through the vocabulary and make sure that everyone understand them then ask them to match them with the photos in groups .

Feedback (2 minutes) • check the Ss understanding & answers

post the answers on the WB and have a WC feedback.

Exposure & present (10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

focus ss attention that on the explanation and remind them that they heard two people in the last section discussing where the might have been taken .Explain that you use must,may,might,could,and can't to indicate how certain you are that things are true or not true. -Give ss an example about the modals of deduction using some visuals. draw a Cline on the board to explain the meaning of the modals of deduction. -

controlled practice (2-3 minutes) • practice the usage of TL

give SS HOS to be solved individually to check that everyone understood.

Feedback (2-3 minutes) • check the Ss understanding & answers

ask Ss to check in pairs then have a WC feedback.

free(r) practice of the TL (5 minutes) • to practice writing in the target language

group Ss in three or four then ask them to Write three sentences about the pictures using the three degrees of certainty (modals of deduction ) after modeling one for the WC.

Feedback (5 minutes) • check the Ss understanding & share answers

have each group talk about the given pictures in WC feedback
